One Day at the Bagamoyo International Festival of Arts with Some Incidental Remembrances

I had been trying to attend a live performance, live show or concert in Dar es Salam but for one reason or another my attempts had been repeatedly frustrated. Gladly, it finally happened two weekends ago during the penultimate day of the Art Festival of Bagamoyo, my favorite destination nowadays!

Between, this adventure also included an evening of culinary fusion with Colombian Patacones and Guacamole accompanied with Tanzanian fish and shrimp at Hannah’s place. It was great to be sharing the kitchen again with Hannah and having the Rafiq's tea that used to replace a couple years ago our nightly drinks in New Haven with family and friends. So wish my side of the family had been there too. Miss them all SO much!!!

They say the experience of attending live performances is a must have, and a great way to experience a country as well. I would add that for someone who grew up listening to the rhythms of Salsa, Cumbias and Mapales and has made it all the way to Africa, this was definitely a must see and do activity J

I certainly had great fun with the phenomenal presentations of local and foreign artists that day. The one given by this ballet dancer was my favorite one. He was absolutely gorgeous on stage.

There was also a lot of African hip shaking dance, which obviously transported my mind to the traditional dances of my home country. I certainly wanted to move my hips to the beat of the familiar rhythms, but didn’t dare to do so when I had the opportunity, way too shy !!

Some of us sitting in the front row were invited on stage but the only adventurous of our group was Juan, one of my new Colombian friends here in Dar. Yep, some don’t mind shaking their hips, lol. By the way, funny enough I attended a Colombian party just the night before the festival, in Dar! What a blast; have been trying to borrow some pictures to post on here since I didn’t bother bringing my camera when I saw Salsa dancing in the foreseeable future J

The End.
